William Ross Cornelius Herstine was born on Nov 24, 1945 to parents Leroy Sr and Ella Herstine in Doylestown, PA. William grew up on his family’s farm with three older siblings in Bedminster, PA. William was a life-long resident of Bucks County..
William graduated from Pennridge High School in 1963. After high school, William attended Penn State University Ogontz (Abington) campus, where he studied engineering and was a member of the ROTC, Reserve Officers’ Training Corps. Later in his life, William also attended Bucks County Community College, earning an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration.
After college, he worked for Sears, Roebuck & Co as a division manager. While at Sears, he met his future wife, Jean. William and Jean married in 1974 and had three daughters together - Christina, Diane and Laura. From 1977 to 1983, William worked on his parents’ farm raising dairy cows. In the mid 1980s, William made a big change and pivoted to a new career in a different industry. William’s new career took him to Ford Electronics and Refrigeration Corp. in North Wales PA, as a supervisor and manager. William worked for Ford Electronics for many years up until he retired. Not one to be idle, William worked part-time as a produce associate at Giant in Plumsteadville, PA for the last 10 years.
In the mid 2000s, after going through a divorce a few years earlier, William sought companionship and worldly adventures. William met his third wife, Heping, online and he traveled to China to meet her. During William’s time in China, William and Heping traveled all over China including to Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Beijing and the Great Wall of China. Heping moved to the United States to be with William and they married in 2006.
William was a skilled, do-it yourself type of person. He initiated many home and land projects ranging from electrical work, woodworking, and landscaping to excavation work and gardening. One of his many projects entailed building an elaborate jungle gym for his children to play on. William was a stoic, yet generous individual - if someone asked him for something, he gave it and never asked for anything in return.
William lived most of his life on the 2 acre homestead that his parents bequeathed to him when he was a young adult. William spent the last years of his life on his homestead with Heping and their dog, Luna, while also working part-time and staying active by doing various improvement projects on his property.
William passed away peacefully on Aug 10, 2024 at his beloved homestead in Bedminster, PA. He was 78 years old. William will be deeply missed by his family, friends and coworkers.
William is survived by his third wife, Heping, and his daughters Christina, Diane and Laura, 2 granddaughters - Marnie and Danica, and step-son, Peng.
