William H. Green, 82, of Blooming Glen, died Wednesday October 2, in his home. He was the husband of Faith (Gaerthe) Green, for 53 years. Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Frederick and Mary (Freeman) Green. William worked for over 25 years for the SEPTA as a bus driver prior to his retirement in 1994. Bill was recognized for his efforts to warn residents of a Bridesburg neighborhood of impending danger and preventing a greater number of injuries and loss of life. While on his bus route he smelled a heavy odor of natural gas and left his bus and went door to door urging individuals to leave their homes and the area prior to a disasterous gas explosion. He had an enduring love of railroading and volunteered for 10 years at the New Hope & Ivyland Railroad. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Jonathan, wife Kim, of Perkasie, and Mark, wife Gretchen of Quakertown; daughters Doreen Richardson, husband Jeff, of Pottstown and Gwendolyn Forsythe of Blooming Glen; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers, Richard and Gerald and sisters Marjorie and Clara. Services will be held Tuesday October 8, 11 am in the Jeffrey A. Naugle Funeral & Cremation Service, 135 W. Pumping Station Rd, Quakertown. Family and friends may call from 10-11 am.
