Walter Jasper Bray

Walter Jasper Bray Jr, 98 years old, of Mantoloking, NJ, passed away on August 17, 2024 at Phoebe Home, in Richlandtown, PA.

He was the husband of Motoko T. Bray who passed away in January, 2024. They were married for more than 20 years.

Born in Newark, NJ, he was the son of Walter Jasper Bray and Helen Fisher Bray of East Orange, NJ.

Walter graduated from Cornell in 1946 and earned his B.ChE. degree in Chemical Engineering while serving in the Navy during World War II. He also earned a Ph.D. in Food Science from the University of Reading in Reading, England and went on to become a President in the Agricultural Division of the Atlantic Richfield Corporation (ARCO).

Then he worked in various feeding programs around the globe helping the poor learn to feed themselves. Through this, he spent considerable time in India and Bangladesh, Mexico, and Central and South America before retiring to the Jersey Shore.

He is survived by 3 daughters, Nanci McGonigal, Lois Hanko, and Carole Bray (his youngest daughter, Margaret Hatcher, passed away in 2004), as well as 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
