Steven Swartley, 69, of Silverdale, died Thurs. Mar. 2nd at his home. He was the loving husband of Ruth (Rice) Swartley for 48 years. Born in Quakertown, he was a son of the late Vernon and Dorothy (Detweiler) Swartley. Steve graduated from Bluffton College, Class of 1969 with a Bachelor's degree in Business. Steve along with his son, Jon, owned Penn Builders, Inc., and worked as a general contractor with valued relationships of respect and integrity with employees, subcontractors, and owners. Steve served on boards and committees with Deep Run East Mennonite Church, Franconia Mennonite Conference, and Silverdale Borough. He was a long-term member of the Grand View Hospital Board of Trustees for 20 years, chairing the Building Committee for 14 of those years. Surviving with his wife are his son, Jon Swartley, wife Kris Anne of Hilltown; daughter, Shana Reinford, husband Rick of Quakertown; grandchildren, Heidi, Benjamin, Micah, Sierra, and Owen; sisters, Deborah Stauffer, husband Russell, Joy Sawatzky, husband Walter, and Cindy Mast, husband Daniel; sister in law, Nancy Swartley. He was predeceased by a brother, Vernon L. Swartley. Steve deeply loved his family. His five grandchildren brought special joy into his life. He was the happiest spending time with them at the cabin in Bradford County. Steve also enjoyed both golfing and hunting with his friends, thriving on the competition and challenge they offered. A Visitation will be held Friday, March 10th from 6:30-8:30 at Deep Run East Mennonite Church, 350 Kellers Church Rd, Perkasie. A Memorial Service celebrating Steve's life will be held on Sat., March 11th at 9:30 AM at the church, with visitation after the service.
