Sally L. Showalter, 55, of Quakertown, formerly of Emmaus, died Wed., Oct. 20 at the Hospice House of the VNA of St. Luke's, Bethlehem after a long battle with leukemia. She was the loving wife of Dr. James G. 'Jay' Showalter and loving mother of Emily Cole. She worked at the Penn Foundation in Sellersville where she provided counseling and support. Previously, she was an activities worker for Luther Crest, Kirkland Village, Phoebe Home, and Lehigh Center. She had served as activities director at Devon House. She was a dedicated homemaker & avid gardener. Born in Phila, she was a daughter of Dr. Edmund and Cynthia (Swensen) Zapp of Quakertown. She was a graduate of Quakertown High School in 1973 and of Susquehanna University in 1979, and received her LPN from the Upper Bucks Vo-Tech program in 1986. She had 2 yrs of study at Kairos School of Spiritual Formation in Wernersville. Sally was an active member of Faith Presbyterian Church, Emmaus where she served as a deaconess, taught Sunday School, and sang in the choir. She had been a teachers assistant at Grace Montessori School, a member of the East Penn Fiber Arts Guild, a friend of the Focolare Movement, and a member of the Henri Nouwen Literary Society, and a founding member of DayBreak a local traditional folk music group. Also surviving are her brothers, Edmund L. Zapp III, York Haven, Frederick B. Zapp, wife Amy, Hollis, NH, David E. Zapp, wife Jane, Wilder, KY, and a sister Cynthia Yacos and her husband Andrew, Striling, NY and many nieces & nephews. There will be a private internment. A Memorial Service will be held at 3 pm Tuesday, Oct. 26 at Faith Presbyterian Church, 3002 N. 2nd St., Emmaus. Family and friends are invited congregate at 2:30.
