Sellersville

Robert Layre of Sellersville passed away Wednesday July 28th 2021, at Grandview Hospital surrounded by his family. Born and raised in Cape May NJ. He was the son of the late Bonnie C. Engle (nee Rice) stepfather the late Robert (Bob) Engle and his father the late Kenneth H Layre.

Robert was a talented cook and learned his skills working with his father Ken and grandparents the late Horace P. and Ruth Layre at their restaurant in the Villas Layre’s Dutch Kitchen.  He then went to work for a few different restaurants in and around the Cape May area. Until he moved to the Sellersville area, where he continued to cook for family. He loved his music and taking care of the chickens, goats, cats, dog, and Koi Pond.  He made you laugh till you cried, sarcastic, empathetic, and loved unconditionally. Robert would give you the shirt off his back even though he was known to go shirtless a lot. In his compassion to help others he became an organ donor; he has provided hope to those in need of life saving or a life enhancing transplant.

He is survived by his loving wife Kim (nee Lorenz Dietrich), his children Jessica, Dillion, Paige, Daniel, his stepchildren Kathrine Underwood (Steve), Kelly Goodman (Ryan) his grandchildren Brandon, Aiden and Josh, Brooklyn, Gunner and Cali Rea sister Terri Douglass (Mark), brother Ken Layre (Jennifer) and Michael Siner (Danielle). His niece Lauren (Dan and Everly)

He was predeceased by his grandparents Charles and Pearl Rice and son Robert.

We will be having a celebration of Robert’s life on Saturday September 11th, 2021, at the bay in Cape May. Robert’s Facebook page will have the exact time and location as soon as details are finished.
