Renate Downing

Renate (Berensmann) Downing, age 77, died Fri. Dec. 4, 2020, at LifeQuest Nursing Center, Milford Twp. Born Apr. 25, 1943, in the then German occupied city of Danzig, she was the daughter of the late Gustav and Johanna (Menzel) Berensmann, and the widow of the late Paul T. Downing. Before becoming an American citizen, she worked in Germany as a medical assistant. In the United states, Renate worked for Prudential Insurance Co. and the Hartford Insurance before retiring in 1997. Renate loved her family, reading books, cooking, and never turned down a good cup of coffee! Her kind, generous spirit will be greatly missed by all. Renate is survived by: daughters Renate Hagan (husband Christopher) and Barbara Weiszgerber (husband Leonard); stepson Tom Downing (wife Patricia); 10 beloved grandchildren; and 3 beloved great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Renate is preceded in death by: brothers Berndt, Peter, and Klaus Berensmann. Services will be private and at the discretion of the family.
