Ray Ackerman, 84 of Macungie, formerly of Quakertown, left the loving arms of his family on Tuesday January 17, 2012 at his home, and was received into the arms of his Lord and Savior. He was the loving husband of Phyllis (Horne) Ackerman who he married 64 years ago on January 18, 1948. Born July 30th, 1927 in Richlandtown PA, he was the son of the late Warren and Mary (Sames) Ackerman. Ray attended Quakertown Community High School as part of the class of 1946, leaving school to serve his country with the U.S. Navy during WWII, subsequently returning from war to graduate. Ray was an avid sports fan, especially fond of football which he played in high school, and for the next 60 years rarely missed a high school game. Ray was especially loved by his extended family, including numerous nieces and nephews, and friends, for his positive outlook on life, and his constant willingness to help anyone in need. He was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Richlandtown where he served on the church council and as superintendent of the Sunday School. A 32 degree mason, he was a member of the Quakertown Masonic Lodge No. 512. He is a life member of Wallace Willard Keller American Legion and is a Charter Member of Tall Cedars of Lebanon. Ray worked for Sensient Flavors for 28 years before retiring in 1993 and subsequently representing the company as a consultant/broker until 2006. Prior to that he worked in sales for Dimmig Electric, Carnation Company and Hurty Peck & Co. Surviving with his wife: a daughter, Sharon, wife of Michael. Krebs, Sr. of Macungie; a son. Scott Ackerman and his wife LaVonne of Middletown; 6 grandchildren: Kirstin Crouthamel, Stacie Ackerman-Hopper, Erika Straume, Scott Ackerman, Jayme Ackerman, and Daniel Ackerman and one great grandchild, Alexandre Pryor. He was preceded in death by a sister Elizabeth Bartholomew and three brothers, Paul, Harold and Lester. Services will be 11:00 am Saturday, Jan 21 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 4 S.
