R. Leon Refsnider, 85, of Richlandtown passed away Tues., Sept. 21 at Phoebe Richland Health Care Center. He was the devoted husband of E. Arlene Heavener Refsnider and the son of the late Norman and Mary Texter Refsnider. He was born in Richlandtown. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Normandy Invasion on the Destroyer, U.S.S. Satterlee, D.D. 626 and also serving in the Mediterranean and in the Pacific. He retired from Bethlehem Steel, Sales Department, in 1983, having worked there for 22 years. He was a lifetime member of Richlandtown Fire Co. and treasurer and financial secretary from 1973 to 1984. He also served with the fire police, he was honored for 58 years of active service from 1946-2004. He also served as scoutmaster for Richlandtown Boy Scout Troop #87. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Richlandtown and was a former church council and choir member. He served on the property committee and also on St. John's Lutheran & U.C.C. cemetery committee. He will be sadly missed by his family and wife of 65 years. He is survived by his son, Ronald and wife Maureen of MN; two grandchildren, Jeanine and husband Henry Streby and Kurt; brother, J. Marvin of Quakertown; nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by brother, N. Webster and step brother, Wilbur and various brothers and sisters in law.
