Mary Veronica Finger of Telford, Pennsylvania, was born on January 26, 1920, and was awarded her second pair of Angel Wings on January 1, 2023, at Lutheran Community At Telford.
Mary was the daughter of Jacob Sikacz and Julia Wyhinnyj Sikacz of 132 W. Wishart Street, Philadelphia, PA. Mary shared 29 years of marriage with Henry A. Finger, before his death in 1971. Mary's sister Anna Sikacz Zolomij, left our family in 2015.
Mary graduated from Kensington High School in Philadelphia in 1937 and worked for the Yellow Cab Company in Philadelphia.
Mary and Henry married on May 16, 1942. A few years later she became a stay-at-home Mom to raise six children. Mary always said that before she was married, she had six theories on raising children. But after raising six children, she had no theories!!
Later Mary worked as a Cashier at Shanken's Shop 'N Bag in Horsham, an Accounts Payable Clerk for the Wissahickon School Distinct, and a Mail Clerk in the AARP Department at Prudential.
When Mary finally decided to retire, at age 75, she spent her time enjoying her family and growing numbers of Grandchildren. Mary also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, crossword puzzles, movies, gardening, sewing decorative flags, and always had a counted cross-stitch sampler in the works! Mary framed most of her cross-stitch pieces herself and they are spread among the homes of her Children and Grandchildren!
Mary moved to Lutheran Community at Telford in 2007 and continued her activities and started knitting and crocheting Baby hats and blankets, which number well into the hundreds!! She always had two or three going at once and for a time Mary and her neighbor were the 'Hat Angles' of the NICU at University of Pennsylvania Hospital! Mary's blankets and hats have found their way to countless family members, friends, and Staff members at Lutheran Community and the NICU at Chester County Hospital.
Mary was an avid reader and loved her large print books and her Reader's Digest! She even had a monthly subscription for large print crossword puzzles! Mary always enjoyed conversation with family, visitors and Staff and kept a candy dish well stocked for everyone to enjoy!
Mary is survived by Kenneth Finger and his wife Sandra, Linda Finger Scott, Wayne Finger and his wife Roslyn, Donna Finger Freeman and her husband Charles, Marianne Finger Brady and her husband Robert, and Henry Finger and his wife Pamela, Fifteen Grand Children, Twenty-five Great-Grand Children and Seven Great-Great-Grand Children.
