M. Fisher

December 22, 1926 — February 21, 2019

M. Carol (Mayer) Fisher, 92, of Frederick, PA, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2019, at Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care in Phoenixville, PA, after a brief illness. Carol was born December 22, 1926 in Harvey's Lake, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. She was the oldest child of Edna May (Harrison) and Adolph C. "Dolph" Mayer. Because of the timing of her birth, she was lovingly called "Christmas Carol" by family and friends. Carol grew up on the family farm in Harvey's Lake, which her father had returned home to manage and care for his parents. She told many happy stories of playing on the farm and the lake with her younger brother Edward, known as "Jiggs," and her dog. They often visited the movie theater operated by her maternal grandparents in Plymouth, PA. The family left the farm when Carol was a teenager, and she came to live in Philadelphia with her aunt. Her parents and brother followed soon after. Carol graduated from Germantown High School, Class of 1944. She worked for a time for the former Savings Fund Society of Germantown. Riding the 52 trolley in Philadelphia she met a World War II veteran, Robert Wynne Fisher, a talented artist who had served as a draftsman with the Army in the Philippines. They were married June 10, 1950, at the former Oak Lane Baptist Church, and settled on 18th Street. They were married for 58 years. Bob was employed as a bookkeeper/accountant at Sun Oil Company for his entire career. After the birth of their first child, Robert Wynne Fisher, Jr., they moved to Glenside Avenue in Cheltenham Township. Two other children followed: a son, Richard Edward Fisher, who died in 1976, and a daughter, Diane Elaine Fisher. Carol's primary occupation and her calling in life was raising her family. As the children grew older, Carol worked in retail at the former John Wanamaker department store in Jenkintown. Carol was very active in Oreland Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon and an elder. In retirement, Bob and Carol relocated to Limerick, PA. Carol continued to enjoy an independent life and time with her children and grandchildren after her husband's death in 2008. She moved to Frederick Living community in Upper Frederick Township in 2018, where she was active and healthy until her final illness. Carol is survived by two children, Robert Wynne Fisher Jr. of Quakertown, PA, and Diane E. Tansey of Trappe, PA; daughter-in-law Suzanne Fisher and son-in-law Thomas Tansey; two grandchildren, Wynne Fisher and Leah Fisher; a sister-in-law, Edna B. Sinnott of Bradenton, FL; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and son, she was preceded in death by her brother, Edward "Jiggs" Mayer of Mattituck, NY. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 16, 10:30 am, at St. James Lutheran Church, 93 Kugler Road, Limerick PA 19468. Interment will be private and at the discretion of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Benevolent Care fund at Frederick Living, 2849 Big Road, PO Box 498, Frederick, PA 19435-0498.
