Louis E. Freeh died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011 at his home with his family, after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease. He was 87. Born on April 5, 1924, he was the son of Frank and Elizabeth (Kresch) Freeh. He retired from Bethlehem Steel, Homer Research Center, after 40 years, where he worked as a research technician. Active in Springfield Twp., he served several terms as tax collector, a year as the zoning officer, and served on the planning commission and the zoning hearing board. A WWII Veteran, he served as an airplane mechanic in the Army Air Corps, and was stationed in Italy. His family was his biggest joy. He enjoyed spending time with them, and helping them in any and every way. He loved to be outdoors, working in the garden and taking walks. He also enjoyed hunting, golf and playing bridge. He was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Ottsville, where he had served as an usher for many years. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Violet (Benner); children Teri Frandsen (Dave), Ron, Pam Mushinski (Dave), Robin. Grandchildren Chris Lapping (Whitney), Jim Lapping (Susannah), Barb Smith (Bob), Becky, Krista, Danni, Brian and Nicole Freeh. Great-grandchildren Devon and Violet Lapping and Libby Smith. Sisters Kit Piotrowski, Terrie LaRosa (Jack), Esther Shinn, Janet McCaffrey and Helen Taylor. He was predeceased by three brothers; Paul, Bob and Frank; and two sisters, Mary Leidy and Millie Warner. A Memorial Mass will be held 11:00 am Sat, Nov. 19th in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Ottsville. Call 10-11 am Sat at the Church. Interment will be private.
