Katherine Shearer, 45, died Wednesday, May 16 in Doylestown Hospital, PA. Born in Nassawaddox, VA on December 22, 1966, she was the daughter of Alexander and Carolyn (Kurtzman) Shearer of Chambersburg, PA. Surviving with her parents are a brother, Scott, wife Susan, of Chambersburg; sister, Stephanie, of Portland, OR, nieces, Rebecca and Gail; friend and caregiver Mary Rumph and daughter Simone of Quakertown, PA She was a delightful ballerina, dedicated historian and reenactress, pioneering adventurer, talented seamstress, patron saint of whippets, and a loyal friend. She was a member of HM Regiment of Foot, a Revolutionary War reenactment unit. She loved dancing, both ballet and Baroque, and was an active participant of both in New Bern, NC. She was extremely well known in reenactment circles for the quality of her recreation of 18th and 19th century clothing. The love of her life were her pet whippets, which ranked just ahead of her love for her motorcycle. A graduate of West Springfield High School, Springfield, VA, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah, GA. and was most recently employed as the operations manager for the Coastal Women's Shelter in New Bern. She was an Episcopalian. Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 26, 2012 in the Path Valley Cemetery, PA route 75 between Spring Run and Dry Run.
