Joseph Tregea Smith, age 88, died Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at Abington Hospital. Born February 20, 1932 in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Stanley and Ida (Tregea) Smith. Joseph (AKA Buzzy) began his acting career as a youth member of The Old Academy Players in Philadelphia, where he acted in many plays, including playing Murray in The Odd Couple, a role he would reprise over 40 years later in a Quakertown playhouse. Joseph graduated from Germantown High School. He then served his country with distinction in the United States Navy, where he developed a love of airplanes and military history. After his retirement from Upper Bucks Vocational Technical School, he was able to assist as a volunteer in restoration of military airplanes at the Willow Grove Naval Air Station. He also had a passion for sports, playing soccer, baseball and running track in his youth; later coaching Quakertown Youth Soccer for many years, playing soccer with the Old Timers into his 60's, and pitching softball well into his 70's. Joseph had an artistic talent, frequently painting and drawing for his pleasure. He joined the Upper Bucks Arts Alliance and participated in several of their art shows. Joseph is survived by his wife RoseAnne (Marafino) Smith; daughter Gayle (Smith) Burkhart (husband Paul); son David Smith; and granddaughters Alyssa Burkhart and Elizabeth Burkhart.
