John (Ed) Shelly of Quakertown, PA, formerly of Sellersville, PA passed away in his home on December 11, 2024. He was five days short of his 82nd birthday, December 16. He was the loving husband of Mary Ellen (Ellie) Morgan.
Born in Sellersville, PA, John was the son of Arthur and Violet (Weidmoyer) Shelly. He was a 1961 graduate of Pennridge High School where he played center on the Rams, Pennridge High School football team. After high school, John was employed by Brooks Instrument and was a salesman for AMP Industries. He joined the Pennsylvania National Guard in Sellersville, PA and was one of the founders of the Pennridge Green Jacket football team. John coached and was a referee for high school and midget football teams and was an umpire for summer baseball games. He owned JES Associates which enabled him to travel extensively throughout the United States to car and truck shows.
Besides his wife, John is survived by his three children from a previous marriage, his sons, Michael Shelly and Andy Shelly of Quakertown, PA; his daughter, Dana Easterday of Quakertown, PA; his grandchildren, Victoria Martino of Quakertown, PA, Jason Shelly (Brittany) of Arizona, Samantha Moser of Lancaster, PA, Allison Schoch (Randy) of Coopersburg, PA, Luke Easterday of Coopersburg, PA, Penny Silfer (Durell) of Richlandtown, PA, Tara Gross of Quakertown, PA, Kimmy Lordi (Pat) of Sellersville, PA, and Karl Gross, of Michigan; and his brother, James Shelly of Michigan. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Jacob R. Moser-Shoop of Glendon, PA, Brayden and Makayla Shelly of Arizona, Landen Martino of Quakertown, PA, Sophia Frederick and Ryder Schoch of Coopersburg, PA, Blake Slifer of Richlandtown, PA, Naomi Castle of Quakertown, PA, and Mason and Jackson Lordi of Sellersville, PA.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by a great-grandson, Isaac James Emery who passed at four weeks old on April 14, 2012; his brother, William (Bill) Shelly; and daughter-in-law, Denise (Andy) Shelly.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to fundraiser for The American Cancer Society in memory of John.
