James Louis Maurer, a long-time resident of Hatfield, passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at Jefferson Abington Hospital, Abington. He was 87.
Jim was the beloved husband of the late Patricia (Benner) Maurer for 39 years until her death in 2012.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Carl and Margeurite Maurer. Jim was a graduate of Philadelphia Wireless Technical Institute.
Mr. Maurer was a U. S. Army veteran.
Over the years, Jim had been employed in a variety of positions ranging from electronics to sales.
Besides time spent with his family, Jim enjoyed going out to daily breakfasts with his friends. He gathered regularly with his "train buddies" and also enjoyed visits to local museums. He loved watching television, listening to music, and doing crossword puzzles. Jim devoted many hours to his model trolley collection, which he designed, built, and displayed locally. He also took pride in his cars. Jim treasured his cat, “Honey,” and enjoyed antagonizing the family dog, “Sam.”
Jim is survived by many cousins and his sister-in-law, Marcy Lynn Perks. "Engineer Jim" is also survived by his "adopted family" of Bonnie McDonald; David, Marie, and Nevin Allen, of Souderton; Duncan and Mikayla Stuart, of Newmarket, NH; Noah and Peyton Allen, of Atglen, PA; and Nason and Courtney Allen, of Mechanicsburg, PA.
A visitation will be held from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Naugle Funeral & Cremation Service, Ltd., 135 West Pumping Station Road, Quakertown, PA 18951. His funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m.
