James A. Clemmer, age 100, of Quakertown, died Sun. Oct. 18, 2020, at Independence Court, Quakertown. Born Sept. 27, 1920, in Quakertown, he was the son of the late Allen K. and Eva (Renninger) Clemmer, and the widower of the late Dorothy (Lewis) Clemmer. Not only one of the few to reach 100 years of age, James was a decorated World War II veteran, earning 7 Bronze Stars, serving as Corporal in the United States Army Air Corps in the European Theater of Operations, including Normandy, the Rhineland, and Ardennes. Afterward, he was the oldest and longest-serving member of the Wallace Willard American Legion Post 242, Quakertown, with over 70 years. He was also a member of the former Quakertown Moose Lodge. In his working life, James was employed for over 30 years as a foreman at the former Renninger Clothing Factory in Quakertown, retiring in 1983. He and Dorothy were also avid pinochle players, and active members of First United Church of Christ, Quakertown, with James serving on the church council, and teaching Sunday school for 23 years. James is survived by: sister Ruth Giering; as well as numerous cousins and extended family. In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by: brother-in-law Willard Giering. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Fri. Oct. 23, 2020, at Naugle Funeral and Cremation Service, 135 W. Pumping Station Rd., Quakertown. A calling hour will take place at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Current health precaution guidelines will be observed.
