Irene Hackman, 86, of Souderton, died Sat. Aug. 1 in the home of her daughter in New Columbia. She was the widow of Leroy Hackman. Born in Franconia Twp, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Katie (Landis) Halteman. Irene was a member of Haycock Mennonite Church, Quakertown. Irene was a longtime resident of Haycock Twp. And volunteered at Care and Share Thrft Shoppes in Souderton as well as for the Mennonite Resources Center. She loved gardening, quilting, and her family. Surviving are her daughters Rachel Knechel, husband Keith of Quakertown, Anita Shirk, husband Quentin of New Columbia, and Eunice Woodward, husband Steve of Souderton; brothers Elvin, Ralph, and Floyd; daughters-in-law Mary Hackman and Ketrina Brenneman; 29 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sons Roy, Dennis, and Vernon, and by 3 sisters and 3 brothers. Calling hours will be held Tues. Aug. 4 from 5:30-8:30 pm in Souderton Mennonite Homes, 207 W. Summit St., Souderton. Funeral services will be held 10 am Wed. Aug. 5 in Haycock Mennonite Church, 1639 Mission Rd., Quakertown, preceded by a calling hour from 9-10 am.
