Herman J. Slozer, Jr., age 95, of Quakertown, PA, passed away on July 18, 2023, at Grand View Hospital, Sellersville, PA. The husband of the late Shirley A. (Swartley) Slozer, they were married for 59 years. Born in Bedminster Township, he was the son of the late Herman J. and Helen (Silberberger) Slozer, Sr. He attended Yost one room school, Perkasie school, and Sell-Perk High School, class of 1948. He received his BA at Temple University. He started, owned and operated the Hilltop Flower and Gift Shop in Perkasie for 50 years before retiring in 2001. He was active in the Perkasie Borough during those years. He was a long-time member of the Pennridge Chamber of Commerce, serving as Secretary for 3 years and President for 4 years. He served on Perkasie Borough Council for 6 years, with 2 of those years as Vice-President. He was a long-time member of the Upper Bucks Tech School advisory board, teaching the adult horticulture class for over 30 years. He served on the advisory board of the Pierce Free Library as treasurer for 3 years. After retiring, Herman was a member of the Pennridge Community Center for many years and served on the advisory board.
Herman was an active member of Saint Stephen's UCC in Perkasie for 30 years, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, and youth ministry. His first organist job was at Saint John's in Spinnerstown for 11 years. He then became assistant organist at Peace Lutheran Church in 1969 and became a member at that time. At Peace he taught the adult Bible class for over 40 years, directed the youth and junior choir for 23 years, served on church council for 12 years, and sang in the senior choir for many years. He taught the Bible class at the Telford Community for 39 years. He served as organist/choir director for 11 years at Saint Luke's UCC in Ottsville and obtained his certification to preach while there. He conducted services at the Phoebe Richland Health Care Center for many years.
Herman is survived by his children: Susan Rice and husband Timothy, of Quakertown, Gail Bauer and husband Christopher, of Lehighton, Scott Slozer, of Fleetwood, Joseph Slozer and wife Katie, of Emmaus, and Grandchildren: Aaron and Arik Bauer, Evan Rice, Hailey and Ezekiel Snyder. He is predeceased by his wife Shirley Ann (Swartley) Slozer in July 2020 and his son, Herman (Jay) Slozer in May 1988.
All are welcome to a casual memorial service at 3:30 PM, Saturday, July 29, at Peace Lutheran Church, 100 Old Bethlehem Rd, Perkasie, PA. A reception will follow in the church pavilion. The family will be holding a private burial service.
