Gerald Welsh Sr

Gerald Richard Welsh, Sr., age 84, died Friday, July 24, 2020, at Phoebe Richland Healthcare Center, in Richlandtown, PA. Born Sept. 24, 1935, in Trenton, NJ, he was the son of the late Joseph R. and Emaline R. (Lesslie) Welsh, and the husband of Janette (Turnello) Welsh. Jerry loved sports, coached youth baseball and basketball, and enjoyed reading and compiling sports statistics. He attended countless athletic events, and for fourteen seasons drove to Clearwater, FL, to watch the Phillies play spring training games. He loved to read, to learn, and to write. He related well to people of all ages and backgrounds. He also enjoyed travel. He visited Antarctica in 2003, and he journeyed on many family trips around the country to visit friends and relatives. His kindness and love will always be remembered. He was employed by Atlantic Products Corporation in Trenton, NJ, but spent the majority of his employment career as Mailroom Supervisor at Dow Jones in Princeton, NJ. Jerry was a member of the New Testament Baptist Church, Hamilton, NJ, for forty years and served as a deacon. He served in the NJ Army National Guard and was a member of various local and national organizations. In addition to his wife, Jerry is survived by: sons Gerald "Rick" Welsh, Jr. (wife Rosemary), Edward Welsh (wife Laura), and Ralph Welsh; grandchildren Tamara Amen, Natalie "Jessie" Venezia, Susan Burnett, Matthew Welsh, Jonathan Welsh, Nathan Welsh, Christina Carpenter, Alicia Welsh, Melinda Cobb, and Katherine Welsh; great-grandchildren Isabella Ryan, Hunter Amen, Hudson Amen, Hayden Amen, Jedidiah Welsh, Clara Amen, Chloe Burnett, McKinley Burnett, Levi Welsh, Kurtis Welsh, and Ayla Carpenter; and sister Claire E. Welsh. Service information will be announced at a later date. A special thank you to Phoebe Richland Healthcare Center where Jerry received outstanding care at "The Cottage." In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jerry's name in honor of the staff at "The Cottage" to Phoebe Ministries, Office of Philanthropy, 1925 Turner Street, Allentown, PA 18104.
