Elmer Andrew Shemeley Jr., age 79, of Quakertown, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2022, with his family by his side.
He was the beloved husband of Virginia "Ginger" (Neibauer) Shemeley, with whom he shared 55 wonderful years in marriage following 6 years of courtship.
Born on February 2, 1943, in Bristol, PA he was the son of the late Elmer A. and Emma M. (Dunn) Shemeley Sr.
Elmer graduated from Delhaas High School in 1961 and from The Pennsylvania State University in 1967 with a degree in Civil Engineering. A lifelong hard worker, for more than 54 years he enjoyed working as a Senior Civil Engineer Supervisor for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Montgomery County District 6, retiring in June 2021. During his tenure he oversaw construction of numerous bridges as well as the Norristown Interchange and the Blue Route.
He loved traveling across the United States and for many years he and Ginger would take an extended trip in the fall to visit National Parks and other beautiful scenic areas especially out West.
His high school senior yearbook quote was, "His great pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do."
In addition to his loving wife, Elmer is survived by his son Ken and daughter-in-law Andrea Shemeley of Pennsburg, PA, his daughter Colleen (Shemeley) Flowers of Denver, CO, his daughter Kerryann (Shemeley) and son-in-law Ryan Hershberger of Camp Hill, PA, his brother Leroy and sister-in-law Audrey Shemeley of Morrisville, PA, his grandsons Kyle Shemeley, Matthew Shemeley, and Asher Hershberger, and his granddaughter Gracie-Ella Hershberger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Kristin Shemeley, his sister Gertrude (Shemeley) and brother-in-law Charles Wolverton. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Elmer's life at a service beginning at 3:00pm on Sunday, October 23, 2022, at Franconia Heritage Banquet and Conference Center,

. A luncheon will follow with a time to informally visit with the family. Interment at Keller's Church Cemetery will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
