Elfriede Weighknecht, age 92, died Sat. Feb. 29, 2020, at St. Luke's Hospice House of the VNA, in Bethlehem surrounded by her loving family. Born Mar. 9, 1927, in Darmstadt, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Karl and Elisabeth (Fleischmann) Steuer, and the widow of the late Herbert M. Weighknecht, Jr. For almost 30 years, Elfriede worked behind the counter at Sines 5 & 10 in Quakertown. She was well known for her cooking, especially her cheese pie and soups. In her younger years she was an active member of Trinity Great Swamp U.C.C. Church in Spinnerstown, serving on the consistory for many years. Elfriede loved to be around people, especially her family. When her children were young, she held all the family picnics. On the weekends, she hosted family breakfast at her home, making eggs and creamed chipped beef for her beloved children and grandchildren well into her 70s. No one was ever turned away from her kitchen. She enjoyed traveling with her family and friends, especially the beach and bus trips to places as far away as the Grand Canyon. She was an avid sports fan, always wanting to know what time and on what channel she could watch her beloved Phillies and Eagles. Elfriede is survived by daughters Rose Marie Fritz (husband Joseph), Susan Wagner, and Michelle Reinhard (husband Tom); 10 beloved grandchildren; and 20 adored great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a son, Herbert C. Weighknecht. Services and interment will be private and at the discretion of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Elfriede's name to the Salvation Army. To sign the online guestbook, visit www.NaugleFCS.com.
