David L. (Dave) Dougherty of Quakertown, Pennsylvania, died June 11 at the age of 77. He was the husband of Maxine (Hovendick) Dougherty. Born in Bellevue, Nebraska, Dave was the son of the late John F. and Beulah (Nelson) Dougherty. Dave grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, where he graduated from South High School in 1954. Following graduation he served in the U.S. Navy until 1957. During his military service he was awarded several Good Conduct Medals. Dave was an electrician and an active member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 22. Following retirement from the electrical trade in 1998 he worked part time as a lot driver for Manheim Auto Auction until 2012. Dave and Maxine were married September 16, 1967 and lived in Ralston, Nebraska, an Omaha suburb, until moving to Quakertown in 2008. Well known for making people laugh, Dave was loved by family, friends and neighbors. He was given the distinction as "community greeter" for the Renaissance at Morgan Creek neighborhood. Dave was an avid outdoorsman who loved gardening, fishing and feeding the birds. He was a member of the B & H Golf League for many years. During the winter and inclement weather he spent countless hours "putzing around" in the garage or basement. Surviving with his wife are sons Troy and wife Gretchen of Lower Gywnedd, PA, Trevor and wife Christie of Campo, CA and Bret of Green River, WY; grandchildren Jack, Flynn, Max, Ava and Justin; sisters Shirley Higgins, Judy Wyatt and Donna Colligan and husband Joe, all of Omaha, NE and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 26 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Jeffrey A. Naugle Funeral & Cremation Service, 135 W. Pumping Station Rd., Quakertown, PA and Friday, June 27 from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 102 N. Hellertown Ave., Quakertown, PA. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the church. A Memorial Service and burial will take place in Omaha, NE on a date to be determined.
