Bruce Stoneback

d. January 1, 2013

Husband, father, friend, educator and jack of many trades, Bruce Stoneback, 62, of Allentown died in Lehigh Valley Hospital, October 1, 2013. Born and raised in Quakertown, Bruce attended Quakertown schools and was graduated by QHS class of 1968. Bruce was graduated from Kutztown University, class of 1971. After graduation, Bruce began a distinguished English teaching career for grades 9 through 12 at Pennridge High School. Bruce retired from teaching in 2010 after having taught for 39 years. During his teaching career, he went on to earn a Masters of Education and a supervisory certificate from Kutztown. At one point, he studied at A.L. Tennyson's Isle of Wight estate, earning a Masters of Arts in English. While he was an undergraduate student, Bruce learned lifelong culinary skills at Benitz Inn in Quakertown. The in-house chef, baker extraordinaire, Mr. fix-it and quoter of fine literature met his wife Diane at Quakertown High School. They would have been married 41 years on October 28, 2013. Bruce's linguistic mind kept learning a lifestyle. He could share a standard recipe and quote Shakespearean sonnets. He could replace an alternator and belly laugh his sixteenth time through on Golden Pond. He knew the stats of all things Titanic. Bruce was an exceptional man, husband, father, friend, educator, and jack of many trades. He will be greatly missed, and for those who knew him, a lifelong presence. Bruce is survived by his immediate family, wife Diane Williamson Stoneback, a senior reporter at the Morning Call, daughter Margaret, Grand Junction, CO, and son, Ian, of Allentown. Also surviving are siblings Roseanne Blackburn, Cheryl Stoneback, and Barry Stoneback. Deceased are Bruce's parents Arlene Naomi Stoneback and Harold Elmer Stoneback and a brother Brian Stoneback. A memorial service will be held at Jeffrey A. Naugle Funeral & Cremation Service, 135 W. Pumping Station Rd, Quakertown, PA on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at 8 pm. Call at the funeral home 7-8pm. All are welcome to attend.
