On October 23, 2024, Beth Anne Landis' smiles faded from our world. "Aunt Beth," as she would call herself, brought hugs, laughter and order wherever she went, and her loving personality touched the hearts of everyone she met.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, Beth graduated from Quakertown Community High School and worked for more than 30 years at BARC Production Services where she thrived with the guidance and support of dedicated staff. Although not a supervisor herself, she made sure that her coworkers followed the rules. Her affinity for order was evident over many years of winning medals and badges in Special Olympics sports (swimming, bowling and tennis) and the Girl Scouts. Beth also competed in soccer, learned to ride and groom horses and worked out regularly with a personal trainer at the gym.
Beth's other loves included fashion, food, numbers and babies. With great care, she adorned herself with rings and pins in unique combinations and picked out her work outfits weeks in advance. Beth never turned down ice cream, cookies, pretzels and potato chips, and upon hearing that pasta would be served for dinner, she knew that "seconds" were allowed.
Like her father and grammy, Beth fell under the spell of counting everything. She kept notebooks of the numbers she spent hours carefully copying; she also counted her favorite m&ms, steps from the front door to the work bus that ferried her to her job and her memorized list of 35 people she adored and called her "mothers," with each one assigned a special number. Whenever there was a baptism at church, Beth always wanted to meet the baby and made sure she got her turn holding each newborn niece and nephew for as long as possible.
What Beth lacked in sight, she more than made up for with her bionic hearing as she sat up close to the TV and tuned in to her favorite programs, including "Jeopardy," "Wheel of Fortune" and "Lawrence Welk."
With her quirky and funny personality, Beth collected friends of all ages wherever she went. Those encounters often led to people mailing her hundreds of greeting cards, which she would sort and reread as she listened to music on weekends. She would often receive more birthday and Christmas cards than anyone else in the family.
To all those who knew Beth, her special love of music comes as no surprise. She was a passionate participant at church where she sang many hymns over the years, often by heart. Beth enjoyed music of all kinds, ranging from Bing Crosby ballads to Alvin and the Chipmunks' holiday tunes that the family could hear through her closed door every Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Beth even took selected recordings from her music collection to East Rock House in Perkasie where she spent the last four joyful years of her life.
Beth is survived by her mother, Anne, sister Heather (Landis) Pierson-Raffaele (Al), brother Drew Landis (Paul), nieces and nephews Lindsay (Pierson) Leecan (Adam), Daniel Pierson (Jennifer), Gregory Pierson (Kirsten), and Juliana Raffaele as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, grandnephews, and a grandniece. She is predeceased by her father, Rev. D. Craig Landis, and brother Marc Landis.
Beth is also survived by her "second mother" Mary Alice Heffner, lifelong friends Carol Van Etten and Adele Krickory, her lifelong boyfriend Ralph Blakemore and the loving hospice staff and group home caregivers in Perkasie.
The burial is private, but all are welcome to attend a memorial service on Saturday, November 9 at Trinity Lutheran Church at 19 S. 5th Street, Perkasie. Calling hour begins at 10:00 a.m. with an 11:00 a.m. service and luncheon immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to BARC Developmental Services, P.O. Box 470, Holicong, PA 18928-0470, Grand View Hospice, 18 S. 5th Street, Quakertown, PA 18951 and Trinity Lutheran Church Childcare Center Scholarship Fund, 19 S. 5th Street, Perkasie, PA 18944.
