Barry Nicholas

Barry R. Nicholas, 69, of Quakertown, died Monday, Feb. 1. He was the loving husband of Barbara (Peregoy) Nicholas for the past 47 years. Born in Quakertown, he was a son of Gladys (Graupner) Nicholas of Pompano Beach, FL and the late Ralph H. Nicholas. Barry graduated from Quakertown High School, class of 1965 and held an Associate Degree from Strayer University. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. As a young boy, Barry was introduced to the former family business, Nicholas Hardware Inc. and later became the Chief Operating Officer. He more recently was employed by North Penn School Dist. Following retirement, he worked part-time for Bucks County Transport. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Quakertown where he served in many capacities including past president of church council. Barry was also involved in civic affairs. He was a former Jaycee, Rotarian, past president Eastern Retail Hardware Assoc. and the National Retail Hardware Assoc. He served as Chairman of the former Quakertown Hospital's Annual Lawn Fete. As a boy scout, he achieved his Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow designations. For recreation, Barry enjoyed salt water fishing. Surviving with his wife & mother are a son, Ryan (Erin); a daughter, Kelly (Dennis) Lawrence; a brother, Dale (Beverly); grandchildren, David, Mary, Aden, Jake, Jonathan, and Rachel. A memorial service will be held Sat. Feb. 27th at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 102 N. Hellertown Ave., Quakertown. Friends will be received from 10:00 until the time of service. Following the service there will be a luncheon in the Fellowship Hall (Yerger Building) just across the street from the church. Come join us for a time of sharing and fellowship.
