Barry N. Horne, 70, of Quakertown, PA, passed on March 20th, 2025, in his home, surrounded by his loving children. Born in Hagerstown, MD, Barry was the son of the late Carl L. Horne and the late Janet (Brocious) Horne. Barry is predeceased by his wife, Dianne, together they shared 28 loving years of marriage.
Barry attended Central Bucks High School East and graduated in 1972. While in high school he worked at Picciotti’s Restaurant and enjoyed riding his motorcycle.
After High School, Barry joined the US Army and was stationed in Germany, as a kitchen supervisor. He received a National Defense Service Medal, and was honorably discharged from service in 1975.
He began his career as a truck driver at Sommer Maid in Doylestown PA. He also drove for Stroehmann Bakeries, Rosenberger’s, and Lehigh Valley Dairies and retired from NFI Industries in 2016. Barry always enjoyed a life on the road, so much so that after retirement he went back to work part time job delivering car parts for Auto Parts Warehouse.
Barry was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan, but he had a love of everything NASCAR. He would often take his family to the races at Pocono Raceway and “The Monster Mile” in Dover, DE.
Barry enjoyed skiing, hunting, and fishing on his boat, which was his biggest passion. You always knew where he would be on the first day of trout season. He would spend many years teaching his children and grandchildren the art and patience of fishing, taking them to local lakes and streams and fishing derbies.
Above all else, Barry will be remembered as a true family man, they are what mattered most to him. Even as his children grew older he would let them know when there would be bad weather, and they gave him the nickname “Weatherman Barry”. There was also never any shortage of laughter when he was around, always being the jokester he was. Cooking was something he loved to do, whether it be manning the grill, making his famous homemade meatballs, or the seafood boils, and get togethers, nobody ever left hungry. He loved to play badminton and make smores with his grandsons. Christmas was his favorite time of year, he delighted in spoiling his family, singing Christmas songs, and of course A Christmas Story marathon. These memories will be cherished by his family.
Barry will be dearly missed by his children, daughter, Marie Strecker, son, Christopher Horne and Step-daughter, Jamie McCloskey (Mark), all of Quakertown; his grandchildren, Brandon Strecker (Madison) and Jayden Strecker. He is also survived by his sisters, Carla Daniels (Harry), Linda Sherrick (Michael), Bonnie Larzelere (Paul), Laurie Horne, and brother Ned V. Horne.
A memorial service will be held at a later date, chosen by the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
