Alfred William VanOsten, Jr., age 61, of Pennsburg, PA, went to be with his Savior on October 3, 2020, after succumbing to a sudden diagnosis of stage-four cancer. Alfred is survived by his wife of 38 years, Cynthia VanOsten, of Pennsburg, PA; his parents, Alfred William VanOsten, Sr. and Gertrude, of Lehighton, PA; his brother, Paul VanOsten and wife, Sue, of Lehighton, PA; his sister, Beth Siuda and husband, Ed, of Chalfont, PA; his son, Brian VanOsten and wife, Melissa, of Cumberland, MD; his daughter, Cassandra Myers and husband, Steven, of Richlandtown, PA; and his son, Colin VanOsten, of Pennsburg, PA. Alfred was born on June 24, 1959, in Ridley Park, PA and raised in Philadelphia. Upon graduation from Cedar Grove Academy in 1977, he attended Bob Jones University and completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Composite Science Education in 1982. While studying at Bob Jones University, he met Cynthia Harris, who soon became the love of his life. They were married on August 7, 1982, and began their journey of service together at Upper Bucks Christian School. Alfred's teaching career lasted until 2003, during which time he was awarded the UBCS Master Teacher award in 1990, Teacher of the Year from KCEA in 1991, and upon his departure was awarded the UBCS Excellence in Teaching award. Students of UBCS will remember his passion for teaching science, directing dramatic productions, and judging performance arts competitions. In addition to working full-time as secondary staff at UBCS, he worked diligently to complete his Master of Education degree from Kutztown University in 1999. In recent endeavors, Alfred was known for his work, and his title, at Teva Pharmaceuticals, as Senior Manager, IT TGO Quality Global Laboratory Information Services, serving as chairman of the deacon board and directing the deaf ministry at Bible Baptist Church, and portraying Chaplain Amos Billingsly of the 101st Pennsylvania Veteran Volunteer Infantry Civil War reenactment chapter. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Al, will remember him for his gregarious personality and unparalleled wit. He lived life with confidence, always able to adapt to any situation in which he found himself. Family gatherings were raucous, with Al holding court keeping everyone entertained and informed, with a healthy mix of his signature sarcasm and common sense. He was an incredible man of faith and lived a life that honored God, always. Al VanOsten, husband, father, friend, and teacher, will forever be remembered and loved. You are invited to Alfred's viewing from 11am to 12 Noon on Thursday October 8th at Highland Park Campground (415 Highland Park RD, Sellersville) followed by his funeral service at 12Noon.
