Albert Buehrer

January 14, 1946 — June 1, 2022

Albert, "Albie," Joseph Buehrer, 76, of Quakertown passed away on June 1, 2022. He was born on Jan. 14, 1946 in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Albert Herman Buehrer and Priska T. (Blank) Buehrer.

Albie's love for food started as a young man working in his family's restaurant, Valley Farm Restaurant, and buying fresh produce from the docks in South Philly.

He purchased the Indian Rock Inn in 1970 where he was the chef/owner until 1988. It was during that time that he saw a high demand for exotic produce which is when he founded Indian Rock Produce.

He built his business to become one of the most influential purveyors of uncommon fruits and vegetables in the U.S. In the 1990s Indian Rock's imports became the showstoppers on restaurant menus.

As clients like Georges Perrier and Susanna Foo became the stars of America's dining scene, Indian Rock provided the products that sparked their creativity and enabled them to create new and unusual dishes.

As Indian Rock's popularity grew, the company attracted the who's who of popular eateries from New York City to Paris, France.

Albie insisted that every item was preserved with care and transported in the most delicate way to be delivered with perfection.

Albie took pride in seeking out the most exotic produce. His motto was "you are what you eat." To say he was passionate about his products is an understatement. If he couldn't find a specific item, he grew it on his farm, Chestnut Springs.

Albert is survived by his spouse Teresa McMahon; children David Buehrer, Tracy Gunn (David), the late Albert J. Buehrer Jr., Daniel Buehrer (Amanda), Alex Buehrer, and Caitlin Buehrer; sisters Annie Ubel and the late Sonya Windholz, 4 grandchildren, friend LuAnn Buehrer; nephew Shane Bechtel; and many other loving family and friends.
